Community Garden

The St. Francis de Sales garden is a place where people from the community can gather together and meet new people.

Students have a range of opportunities to help grow and sustain our school community garden. The students are given the opportunity to work in the garden, as part of a senior action team, as well as volunteer their time during lunchtime.

St. Francis de Sales Community Garden Mission Statement Compiled by Senior Students

Self

The St. Francis de Sales garden is a place where individuals can feel happy and relaxed.  The aim is to allow each person to be involved in the creation and maintenance of the garden.

Community

The St. Francis de Sales garden is a place where people from the community can gather together and meet new people.  We hope that we will become friends and be able to work together and support each other like one big family.

Learning

The St. Francis de Sales garden is a place where both adults and children can be teachers and learners. The aim is to share our knowledge and skills about growing and looking after plants.

The garden commenced in 2013. In the nine years that the garden has been operating students have been involved in activities such as:

  • Constructing garden beds to grow vegetables.
  • Planting the olive grove with the support of students from St John’s Regional College.
  • Designed and Constructing the chicken coup with help from families, our action teams and VCAL students from St John’s Regional College.
  • Ongoing maintenance of the garden.
  • Composting.
